Gridone/2188 m

Descent towards the Cannobina Valley

Mount Gridone (also named Limidario in Italy) is the highest mountain that is mirrored by the placid waters of the Maggiore Lake. The panorama from its summit is magnificent in every direction you might look, but a even more outstanding show is the one he offers to the people living at its foot, when the sun on his way to the sunset stops for a while to play with the clouds, and the wind, mad with jealousy, runs after them and breaks them all up.

This description proposes the climb on the side facing the lake, over Brissago, while the descent is on the side of the Cannobina Valley. On both sides the roads keep far away from the summit, which can be reached only by narrow and steep mountain trails. Therefore this tour can be accomplished only by strong and expert hikers.
