Vergante/921 m

Mount Cornaggia, the highest point of this tour

The starting point is Gignese. You have to follow the main road towards Armeno, but after a few hundreds meters and a short climb, you have to leave the asphalt road and follow a gravel road on the left (marked with "H2"). The gravel road climbs Mount Scincina (837 m) with the help of a few U-turns. Once you get on top you have to head SSE, and after one kilometer of slight descent you'll get to the small chapel of Alpe Canā (734 m). Here you join the road marked with "V", that you won't have to leave until you get to Cappella del Vago.

After a few hundreds meters you get to a junction, where you have to leave the gravel road to get on a bumpier fire road (on the left), that leads towards Mount Cornaggia. Even though there isn't any major climb, there are many short but steep climbs, and some are so rough that aren't almost rideable. Always following the "V" signs and the red and white markings, and ignoring all other bifurcations, you shortly get close to the top of Mount Cornaggia (921 m). The "V" road goes on straight; to visit the mount you have to leave it and climb along a short path on the left. The summit isn't very high, but it has no threes, so it offer a nice view over the Maggiore Lake and the surroundings.

After getting back to the "V" road, you have to keep on heading South. You'll go through more ups and downs, riding on gravel roads and on dirt roads, sometimes in thick woods and sometimes though open pastures. You'll touch 3 others small mountains (Toriggia, La Guardia and Tessera) and you'll finally get to Cappella del Vago. Here you have to quit the "V" gravel road and start following the "E2" one that heads downwards. This is a rougher road, and in a few turbulent minutes you'll reach the first houses of Colazza (543 m). Keeping on the left, you get to an asphalt road, but you have to avoid entering Colazza. You have to take another gravel road (marked with "F1") that will bring you to Fosseno (596 m) following a small river.

The start of the descent at Cappella del Vago

Don't enter Fosseno as well, but ride on the left of it, following the asphalt road at the foot of the mountain. You have to try to keep heading NE, on a gravel road that goes through some farms, and keep away from all the roads that head left ("F3", "F4", " F5" e "F6"). One kilometer after Fosseno you'll get to a junction, where you'll have the follow the "H2" signs. After a short section on a hiking path, you'll get to another bumpy gravel road that climbs back to Alpe Canā.

From Alpe Canā on you'll have to follow the "V" signs again, but this time on the opposite direction, towards Gignese. You'll get on a flat fire road made of pink gravel, that will bring you to Alpe Camoscio and will then turn into a single track. Follow the single track downwards to get back to the asphalt road and, after a short climb, to Gignese.
